Description

I rescued Milo while visiting Los Angeles. After a tough day, I decided to stop by a local shelter to lift my spirits. As I parked and got out of the car, I noticed a young man with a golden retriever. I approached him to congratulate him on what I assumed was a new adoption of the cutest retriever with amber eyes, but he explained that he had actually found the dog abandoned and wandering on Runyon Canyon without a collar.He had brought him to the nearest shelter in hopes of finding help. As a veterinary assistant, I offered to help when the frightened retriever refused to move. He seemed frozen in place. Together, we gently encouraged him into the shelter, where staff scanned him for a microchip and took him to the back to wait in case someone came to claim him. I was given his ID number and told to check back in five days. On the fifth morning, I called the shelter, gave his ID number, and to my surprise, no one had come for him—he was still there. Two weeks later, Milo flew to his new home in Toronto, Canada. It took time for him to come out of his shell, but now we can’t imagine life without him. Milo is always smiling, asking for belly rubs, and offering his paw for more cuddles. He loves the winter and long walks in the forest. He’s not just a rescue; he’s family.
